John L. Hendrick, former President of Hendrick Motorsports and JL Hendrick Management
Corporation, established the Hendrick Foundation for Children as a result
of his love for children, especially those underprivileged, abused, or seriously
ill.
Mr. Hendrick, a very successful businessman, had donated his personal
time to betterment of children through his involvement in charitable
organizations. The Nazareth Children’s Home, the Make-A-Wish Foundation,
and Elon Homes for Children were just a few in which he participated.
Upon his return from a speaking engagement in California, he
decided that he needed to and would do more. Thus, the formation of
the Hendrick Foundation for Children began.
On October 24, 2004, just days after the Foundation formation, Mr. Hendrick
and nine others were tragically killed as the result of an airplane accident.
But the spirit of his dedication will continue through the works of this
Foundation.
The Mission Statement: Our mission statement for the
Foundation is to support and distribute funds to other charitable and
educational organizations which provide health, medical, social welfare,
educational and other support programs and services for the benefit
of children with illness, disease, injury, pain, disability, incapacity
or other disadvantage. We will also assist other charitable and educational
organizations sponsoring programs which are community oriented and focus
on improving the quality of life of children with life-threatening or
chronic injuries, illnesses and disabilities.
